MG Caravalho, MD USA (Ret) will speak on "Military Medicine and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine."
MG (Dr.) Joe Caravalho is President and Chief Executive Officer of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF), having served for more than 30 years in the Army.
After earning a medical degree in 1983 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine, Dr. Caravalho went on to serve in a range of military leadership positions. His extensive expertise and vision was called upon in the positions of Army Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Commanding General (Support) of the U.S. Army Medical Command. Dr. Caravalho continued to serve his country as the Joint Staff Surgeon at the Pentagon. Later, his remarkable breadth and depth of knowledge was tapped to provide recommendations on medical and readiness issues as the Chief Medical Adviser to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
In his role as President and CEO of the HJF, Dr. Caravalho works to advance military medicine and improve the lives of the nation’s wounded and ill service members and veterans as well as civilians. HJF focuses on coordinating and managing research proposals, grants and contracts so medical personnel can concentrate on vital scientific initiatives and clinical programs.
